The Senior Building Control Officer (Consents) will play an important role in working with the Building Control Services Manager to ensure building consents are processed efficiently, and to a high standard whilst appropriately managing risk. The Senior Building Control Officer (Consents) will manage a caseload of building consent applications, including more complex applications, and will manage and allocate workloads on a day to day basis.
A key part of the role will be the management, mentoring and peer reviewing of work of more junior staff, the oversight of consenting processes to maintain appropriate standards of assessment, and the exercising of delegated powers to sign off some types of consents. These aspects of the role will be supported by appropriate training with a view to developing management and mentoring competencies as well as competency as a technical leader. The Senior Building Control Officer (Consents) will contribute to continuously improving the way in which the Department operates, and will foster good working relationships within Council, with applicants and the wider community.
The Senior Building Control Officer (Consents) will, nevertheless, have responsibilities across all aspects of building control including processing applications, building inspections, administration (including BCA accreditation requirements), responding to customer enquiries and interacting with other Council teams.
