Permanent | Full time

The Upper Hutt City Council’s mission is to enhance the quality of life in Upper Hutt by providing leadership, support, and services to the community.

The Asset Management and Operations Department plays a pivotal role in ensuring the Council achieves this mission. We are looking for an Engineer who wants to join this team and to contribute to supporting the ongoing growth of Upper Hutt City.

The core part of this role is to assess the engineering designs related to land use and subdivision consent applications, and to set and monitor engineering conditions related to the consent issued. To do this, you will need to utilise your own engineering skills and knowledge, as well as working with other technical experts in the roading and three waters fields to ensure that the finished works are safe and appropriate for use by the public and the new property owners.

You will also have the opportunity to broaden your own range of skills by undertaking other engineering works to assist in the delivery of the Council’s programme of roading works.

Your excellent written and verbal communication skills will be utilised to communicate and engage with many members of the local community including property owners; developers; contractors; consultants; and other members of the public. These communication skills will be essential to ensure that you develop good working relationships across stakeholders, and that all requirements related to consents are clearly set out and communicated.

To be successful in this role you will have a relevant tertiary engineering qualification, and you will preferably have had previous experience with the consenting process.

If you would like to be considered for this role then please apply online: www.upperhuttcity.com/careers. All applications must include a cover letter, CV and a completed online Upper Hutt City Council application form.

Applications close 4pm Wednesday 14 December 2022.

We may start considering and interviewing candidates as their applications are received so we encourage you to apply early.

NOTE THAT YOU MUST HAVE THE RIGHT TO WORK IN NEW ZEALAND TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE.
