We know there may be hardship due to COVID-19 for some businesses and general ratepayers. Talk to us if you are concerned. We will work it out with you. If the issue is the deadline and you’re worried about penalties, again, let us know and let’s see if we can make some arrangements that will work.

COVID-19 relief measures that support ratepayers
On 9 April, Council agreed on 12 measures that are aimed at bringing relief to residents and businesses in light of the COVID-19 lockdown and its financial impacts. Relief measures aimed at relieving the rates burden are included below.
Rates increases and the Annual Plan 2020 – 2021
Council’s rates requirement was set to increase by 4.68% as indicated in the Long Term Plan 2018 – 2028. Council has now adopted a rates requirement increase of 1.5%, which will effectively keep it below inflation.
Postponement of the April and August 2020 rates instalments
If customers can demonstrate that they are in financial hardship, they could qualify to have the April and August 2020 rates instalments postponed. The postponements will look different for residential customers than they are for business customers. If you would like to apply to have your rates payment(s) postponed, please download the application form, fill it out and send it back or bring it in to us (along with your supporting information).
