In early November Council submitted a video on the importance of washing recyclables before putting them in the recycling bin as part of WasteMINZ’s Rinse, Recycle, Repeat challenge. The competition encourages New Zealanders to get into the habit of thoroughly rinsing bottles, tins, and jars so they don’t have to be sent to landfill.

This promotion aligns with our community outcome commitment to Taiao/environment.

The video made it through to the finals and featured on the AM show, with the $25,000 prize being eventually claimed by Wainui Beach School.

Council would like to thank everyone who took part in the project - Mayor Wayne Guppy, our young waste minimisation experts, Upper Hutt Rural Fire Force and Keep Hutt Valley Beautiful.
