Today we officially opened the new pedestrian bridge over the Whakatikei Stream (access via the trail at the end of Cory Jane Grove).
This bridge is another important piece of the overall Hutt River Trail concept to convert the berms of the Hutt River from an overgrown wilderness, into a linear park with a recreational trail along both banks—a distance of almost 60 km.
The bridge was designed by Frame Group and constructed by Edifice Structures. It was blessed by matua Kura Moeahu from Te Ati Awa Whānui ki te Upoko o Te Ika a Maui, the local mana whenua and officially opened today by His Worship the Mayor, Wayne Guppy.
This bridge will link Riverstone Terraces to Totara Park and create another bridge to bridge link (Moonshine to Totara Park bridges) to further open up the recreation value of the Hutt River corridor and add to the Hutt River Trail concept.
