We’re excited to announce that Maidstone Max is set to reopen in May!

We had hoped to be able to do this during the April school holidays, but with some adverse weather conditions impacting work late last year, we have had to delay by a couple of weeks.

It’ll be worth the wait though, we're introducing some new features that we think you’ll love, including:

  • New double accessible toilet block near the young children’s play area, seating and picnic tables, shade elements, waste/recycling bins, lighting and security cameras.

  • Enlarged state-of-the-art skate park, new half basketball court, refurbished flying fox, and a pump track for younger/learner scooter and bike riders.

One of the things we’re most proud of though is the focus on accessible play for users of all abilities in this design. Things like specialist swings and other interactive features, and ramp access to the castle for anyone with limited mobility or using a wheelchair or push chair.

The new design also incorporates sand play, which we don’t have in any of our other parks, as well as musical play in the Bards Compass area (shown in photo on right) – adding uniqueness as a destination, and catering to all ages and abilities.

We’ll be holding a special event to mark the official reopening of Maidstone Max on 22 May, from 10am to 12pm.

The Maidstone Max upgrade is one of the 11 projects consulted upon and budgeted for as part of our Long Term Plan 2018-2028.

It received overwhelming support and we engaged extensively with our community to ask for their ideas on what features they’d like to see at the park, a number of which have been incorporated.

We’re confident this new design will keep Maidstone Max high on the list of top class community recreation attractions, for both locals and visitors, and we can’t wait to cut the ribbon.
