Ki Uta app launch

Easy to use and free to download, Ki Uta is an app that offers you tools to aid in your te ao Māori journey.  

Ki Uta means inland which acknowledges the geographic location of Upper Hutt; inland and along Te Awa Kairangi [Hutt River]. It was created to help with our community outcomes of celebrating our whānau, heritage, and culture.  

Just a tap on one of the many Māori words and Ki Uta will pronounce the word for you out loud, helping you get your te reo whakapai ake!  

Ki Uta is an app that offers you some tools in te ao Māori, this app also acts as a resource for learning the Māori language as well as an information site for learning the history and traditions that exist alongside it.  

The app was created to encourage the learning and understanding of te reo Māori and Māori culture. The main goal of this is to make Māori more accessible to those in the community that would like to learn more te reo Māori.  

Pronouncing Māori names and words correctly lets others know that you appreciate who they are and where they come from. Don’t worry if you don’t get it right the first time, that’s why Ki Uta’s here to help! 

Ki Uta is easy to use, has a wide variety of Māori translations and will show you how to pronounce them by just tapping on the word you wish to learn. It also contains information about Māori history and culture at the tap of a button. If you have an Apple or android device simply search Ki Uta and download it, this app also comes with interactive text. Tap on any bolded word in te reo Māori to hear the audio pronounced, to hear the word spoken in te reao Māori phonetically, double tap on the word. Have a go yourself and when you’re feeling like you have the hang of it have a go at recording yourself by pressing the ‘My narration’ button.  Ki Uta is easy to use and filled with many essential words and phrases, all you have to do is download it from your app store.
