We have a pool of funding available to help fund new environment or waste minimisation initiatives In Upper Hutt.

It’s called the Environment and Waste Minimisation Fund and applications are open!

There have been some wonderful projects funded over the last year, including:

  • Sustainability funding for a sustainability youth education programme.
  • Resilience funding to cover an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) to the school internet and VOIP phone system to allow it to be used in the event of a power cut.
  • Waste minimisation funding for food waste with the introduction of worm farms, composting and bokashi bins.
  • Waste minimisation funding to go towards an ECE or schools Enviroschools journey and environmental programme that will incorporate composting, a worm farm, reusable nappies, and a vegetable and fruit garden.
  • Waste minimisation funding for several schools for composting, gardening tools and supplies, recycling bins, and a restoration project.

The fund is open to Upper Hutt schools, early childhood education facilities, community garden providers, charitable community organisations, social enterprises, and not-for-profit organisations.

Your initiative just needs to tie into environmental protection or restoration, waste minimisation, or community resilience to be considered.
