Do you have a healthy home?

It’s been almost two months since we launched our Healthy Homes campaign, offering two free services to the residents of Upper Hutt:

  • Home Energy Audit Toolkits (HEAT kits)
  • In-home assessments with our Eco Design Advisor (EDA) Service

We kicked things off with an event at the Upper Hutt Library on 6 August where over 20 people came to hear from Gregory Street from the EDA Service talk through what he does, what the HEAT kits do, and about why it’s so important to have kiwis living in warm, dry healthy homes.

Since then, the  HEAT kits have been checked out through the library and over 12 in-home assessments have been completed across Upper Hutt. You can book yours now at upperhuttcity.com/healthy-homes.

In addition to the services and the event, a big part of this campaign is education.

It is in all our best interest to have kiwis living in warm, dry healthy homes.  It leads to:

  • Fewer illnesses and disease
  • Lower energy use
  • Lower carbon footprint
  • On a practical sense, damp air is harder to heat than clean air.

New Zealand has a poor history of unhealthy homes; cold, damp, poor quality houses are linked to a raft of diseases such as asthma, respiratory infections, bronchitis, pneumonia etc.

Our goal is that the more people in our city who know about this and the free services on offer, can have a warmer, drier, healthier home.
