Consultation for the Dangerous and Insanitary Buildings Policy

We’ve recently reviewed our Dangerous and Insanitary Building Policy and would like your feedback on what we’re proposing. 

The Building Act 2004 requires each territorial authority to have a Dangerous and Insanitary Building Policy, and to review that policy every five years to make sure it’s fit-for-purpose. This Act helps ensure people who use buildings can do so safely, without endangering their health and can escape from a building in the event of a fire. 

All buildings are required to meet the applicable standards when they are built but they may become dangerous and/or insanitary overtime. 

While the current policy generally meets the requirements of the Act, we want to ensure it is robust enough to reliably meet the Councils ongoing obligations.
