The Wellington Pride Festival kicks off on 4 March so to show our support, Upper Hutt is getting colourful!

Why? Because diversity is something we are proud of at Upper Hutt City Council.

It’s important to us that we acknowledge and celebrate the people in our rainbow community, and that Upper Hutt is a safe and respectful place.

‘Rainbow’ refers to people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, asexual, takatāpui and intersex (LGBTTQIA+).

It’s also important to our staff, some of whom are part of the rainbow community and allies, that we are progressive on social issues and that we continue to lead the community in supporting initiatives like this.

There are some fantastic events planned for the Wellington Pride Festival, but you can also get involved here too.

Pop along to an event, have a photo in front of the rainbow steps, check out the exhibition “Windows of the heart” by takatāpui artist Ron Te Kawa at Whirinaki, sign up for the libraries rainbow storytime, or get your hands on the Pride merch on sale across the city, with proceeds going to rainbow charities.

Our website has plenty of tools and resources, plus a list of events.
