Community Arts Advisor

Council’s new Community Arts Advisor role aims at supporting and networking local visual and performing artists, and cultural groups.

The role is designed to provide support and encouragement to people and organisations active in the arts and culture sector—empowering them to achieve their objectives and ensure that arts and culture in our community are supported to thrive.

As a new role we’re keen to hear from Upper Hutt based arts and culture organisations, practitioners, and groups to develop an Arts and Culture Directory. A comprehensive resource outlining what is happening in Upper Hutt and identifying gaps and needs.

Other projects led by this role are
  • Advice and support: Identifying gaps and addressing needs in the arts and culture community

  • Building an Art Map: an across-media self-guided Art Map for Upper Hutt

  • Running an annual Upper Hutt Art Trail weekend: highlighting local creative spaces and Artists.

  • Holding regular ‘Art Meet-Ups’: networking events, workshops and newsletters to keep in touch

  • Co-developing accessible hands-on outreach arts activities and events

  • Support to grow local multicultural festivals and/or cultural events
