Upper Hutt residents can expect to receive an information document in their mailboxes during the first week of April that confirms our plans and the rates increase for 2023 – 2024.

Our proposed plans for 2023 – 2024 don’t vary significantly from what we have in the Long Term Plan 2021 – 2031, so we’re not doing a public consultation and we have kept our commitment to keep rate increases under 6%.

Specifically, our plans are driven by current economic environment. Although, our costs as a council have increased, we’ve decided to use reserves to meet those costs so that they don’t get passed on to ratepayers. We’re conscious of the pressures affecting families and households, who we know are also facing the impacts of rising inflation and the cost of living.

This plan limits our total rates requirement, without reducing service levels, and keeping within our Long Term Plan commitment.
