Gateway - Youth and Work Experience

Several of our local businesses support Upper Hutt secondary schools and their senior students via the Gateway programme.

The programme provides students with work experience, and enables them to build on skills our local businesses need to fulfil future staffing requirements.

Gateway is funded by the Tertiary Education Commission with an aim of youth participation in long term work experience, while also gaining work related unit standards.

Required work experience is one day a week for a minimum of 10 weeks but can be extended with the agreement of the employer, student, and school.

All Gateway students undergo First Aid and Health & Safety training before they are placed with their employer. Students are also supplied with required clothing so there is no cost to the employer, except of course their time.

Over past years colleges in Upper Hutt have received wonderful support from a wide range of  businesses, for which they are very grateful.
