Next date: Saturday, 13 April 2024 | 09:00 AM to Sunday, 05 May 2024 | 04:00 PM

intricately carved clay beads on a string.

He Kākano o hau - Whakapapa Chain 6 is an uku (clay) taonga developed and made by Stevei Houkāmau(Ngāti Porou and Te Whānau-ā-Āpanui). The whakapapa chain is a physical manifestation of the links that connect us to our past and future.

We are each a part of a long line, a kākano (seed) in a chain that reaches back for generations and will continue to long after us. But we are never lost - we continue to be part of the chain forever, giving it strength for generations to come. "Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua" - i walk backwards into the future with my eyes fixed on the past.
