Tree protection/Notable trees
Important message to residents within the residential conservation and residential hill sub-zones
|
|
Despite changes to the Resource Management Act that come into force on the 1st of January 2012, residents within the Residential Conservation and
Residential Hill Sub-zones are advised that all trees with a trunk
diameter greater than 0.2m measured at a vertical height of 1.5m will
remain protected by rule 18.23 of the District Plan.
If you wish to view the full wording of rule 18.23, please go to www.upperhuttcity.com and search under the key words District Plan. |
Alternatively, you are very welcome to contact the Planning team by phone on 527 2169 or by email at askus@uhcc.govt.nz
. The Council offices will be open for enquiries during normal business

| Tree protection rules supported through Environment Court declaration |
The Environment Court recently
issued a decision on tree protection rules within district plans in
response to the RMA Amendment Act 2009. The decision is available

Review of the District Plan tree protection provisions
|
Following on from the adoption of the Urban Growth Strategy the Council
is undertaking a review of the current tree protection provided by the
District Plan.
This review is in response to feedback from the community that more
trees throughout the City could be protected. Any changes to the
District Plan will be subject to the public consultation process.

Recognising notable trees
|
Do you know of a specimen tree that you think would be worthy of protection as one of Upper Hutt’s Notable Trees?
Thanks to recent feedback from the community, which voiced concerns that
more of Upper Hutt’s trees needed to be protected, the Upper Hutt City
Council is reviewing its current tree protection scheme, as outlined in
the District Plan.
To help identify which trees are significant to the community and could
possibly be added to Upper Hutt’s list of Notable Trees the Upper Hutt
City Council are asking for the public to come forward with their
opinions and suggestions.
If anyone has any suggestions for a particular specimen tree which could
be added to the Notable Tree list please phone 527-2169 or email us.
