Future Dragons
More info
| Community Services have recently appointed someone to simplify and
re-establish the Future Dragons programme. In the past the programme
participants had to commit to regular meetings and activities to fully
develop their business ideas. It became clear that this was viewed as
onerous, rather than fun by the young people involved. The new model for Future Dragons will include a group of 8 – 10 young people aged 15 – 24 years who will commit to a two-day workshop or evening workshops. During these workshops they will learn the basics of entrepreneurship and business planning. Community Services plan to run at least two sessions twice a term – times and dates are flexible and will be coordinated after speaking with participants. Having the workshops outside of school hours means anyone can attend, including those young people who may work or go to school outside of Upper Hutt. The new programme is being designed specifically for youth, based around business development and marketing, but ultimately engaging youth in innovative thinking. It offers a unique opportunity, which will empower students to develop their creative and entrepreneurial skills. The workshops will involve subjects such as New Product Development, Innovation, Marketing, and Feasibility. It will also involve attendees coming up with their own innovative idea and developing a business plan for it. On-going mentoring and help to further develop students’ ideas will be available for anyone who wants the assistance after participating in the programme.
