Regional Outdoors Programme
Explore the regional parks - right on your doorstep this summer with these highlights of the award winning Regional Outdoors Programme from the Greater Wellington Regional council.For the full programme and additional information go to www.gw.govt.nz/events. For all trips, please bring tramping boots/strong walking footwear, a waterproof jacket, warm clothes, a hat, sunscreen, lunch and a water bottle. No dogs please unless mentioned.
Explore Belmont Series - Walk 1
Saturday 17 Jan 9.30am to 11.30am
Belmont Regional Park, Hill Road entrance
First walk in the series. Meet at Hill Road where we walk along 4WD tracks to the Airstrip before turning left onto Coach Road before looping back to the start. Great views of Pauatahanui. Cook Strait and the South Island. Medium fitness required. No bookings required just turn up.
Explore Belmont Series - Walk 2
Saturday 24 Jan, 9.30am to 11.30am
Belmont Regional Park, Dry Creek entrance, Loop track walk
Today we explore the Loop Track around the side of the bush clad Dry Creek valley. There are some steep sections and views down to a waterfall and back over the Hutt Valley. Good fitness required. Dogs on leads okay. No bookings required, just turn up.

Saturday 31 Jan, 9am to 12 noon
Belmont Regional Park, Takapu Track entrance
This week we walk up the western farm tracks to the hight tops of Round Knob, cutting back along Duck reek to the start point. Max 40 people, bookings essestial.
Back of the Forest Walk
Wednesday 25 Feb, 6.30pm to 8.30pm
East Harbour Regional Park, Cheviot Rd entrance
Join the ranger on a walk through the lovely native coastal forest of Lowry Bay. Learn about local forest ecosystems and enoy stunning evening harbour views. Max 35 people, bookings essential.
Gollans Valley Adventure
Saturday 28 Feb, 8.30am-3pm
East Harbour Regional Park, meet at Huritai entrance
Explore the off-track heart of East Harbour Regional Park in a guided tramp. A bus will drop us at York Bay where we'll take the lesser known Kaitawa Street Track to the main Ridge.
Then we drop down into Gollans stream, following the valley to Butterfly Creek and back to the start via Kowhai Track. Must be able to walk off track for 6 hours. Max 30 people, bookings essential.
Ridge Track Adventure
Saturday 21 March, 10am to 3pm
Kaitoke Regional Park, Waterworks Rd entrance
This 9km walk through regenerating bush and mature beech forest gives panoramic views of the Hutt Valley and Tararuas. We bus from the information kiosk back to the start of the Ridge Track at Te Marua. Max 35 people, bookings essential.
