Water Supply
Bulk water is purchased from the Greater Wellington Regional Council and stored in the Upper Hutt City Council’s 12 reservoirs. Water is distributed to residents via 4 pumping stations and 220km of water mains. Upper Hutt presently has an "Aa" grading for its reticulated water supply, which is the best grading available in New Zealand.
In keeping with Councils Strategic Plan, Council undertakes to provide a cost effective, high quality and reliable water supply system with an aim to reduce the volume of water per head of population used by the city. Council is also seeking a more equitable bulk water supply charge and a reduction or postponement of major bulk water supply capital costs.
