Active Recreation Manager
Matt Warren
Matt Warren
Matt will manage the team. He was born & bred in Porirua and has worked in the recreation industry for the past 10 years. Matt will be responsible for managing the delivery of the project and to ensure the objectives are met. As well as managing the project and staff Matt’s role is to advocate and promote sport and active recreation in Upper Hutt City.

Active Communities Co-ordinator
Cherry Downing
Cherry Downing
Cherry has been in New Zealand for 18 months - an export from the UK. Cherry has managed a number of health promotion projects. Cherry will be responsible for the development of programmes designed to encourage community members to become more active. Cherry will work with community groups and providers to ensure there is a wide range of active recreation opportunities run in a sustainable way.

Dave Workman
Active Clubs Co-ordinator
Active Clubs Co-ordinator
Dave has been involved with the Black Sox for six years, and is now assistant coach to the team. Dave’s strengths are his strong sporting background and excellent links with the Upper Hutt community. Dave will focus on club development, growth and links into community programmes. Dave will help clubs and groups grow and sustain strength. Dave will also help people in the community access local clubs.

Youthtown Development Officer

Jaime Southey
Jaime Southey has recently joined the Activation Team as Youthtown Development Officer.
Jaime has 5 years experience in the recreation industry, ten months with Sport Wellington Region as Coachforce Basketball Officer and four and a half years with Recreation Porirua as a Recreation Programmer for the Porirua City Council.
As Youthtown Development Officer, Jaime is currently working with the Upper Hutt Colleges, running a Streetball 3 on 3 competition and putting plans in motion to get a local after school care programme up and running very soon, so watch this space.
Jaime is very excited about what is in store for the young people of Upper Hutt, be sure to keep an eye out for her out and about the streets and schools of the city.

Schools Activator
Nichola Brydon
Nichola Brydon
Nichola Brydon has also recently joined the Activation team as the Schools Activator. She will be working with all primary schools in Upper Hutt to support and develop sport, fitness and physical activity programmes and work with the Upper Valley Primary Sports Association to ensure quality events are run for children.
Previously Nichola worked at Sport Wellington Region where her role was in schools to create a physical activity culture and assisting the 23 Sport Zones in Wellington. Nichola has a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Psychology and Education and a Certificate in Sports Management and Exercise Prescription. She is passionate sports person and plays representative Hockey for the Wellington Women’s team.
