Active Communities
Active Communities is about creating opportunities for everyone in the community to be more physically active, whether it be through developing programmes, ‘have a go’ opportunities or the distribution of information about opportunities that already exist.Being active can sometimes be a struggle, Active Communities is about making physical activity easy and accessible by highlighting ways to be active throughout everyday life. Whether it is walking the children to school, going for a swim or a walk at lunch time, joining one of the many sports clubs in Upper Hutt or getting to grips with yoga or dance classes, the opportunities to be active in such a beautiful area are endless.
The Active Communities Coordinator will assist the community to increase physical activity by:
- providing advice and monitoring information.
- promoting accessible physical activity opportunities.
- delivering key physical activity messages to promote healthy lifestyles.
- assisting with community events and activities.
Current projects and initiatives
The following are projects and initiatives that the Activation Team is working on bringing to the community:
- Producing simple walking maps.
- Developing an introductory duathlon series.
- Free physical indoor activity options through the Lively Places programme.
- Biking initiatives during February each year - BikeWise month.
Plus much more. Keep an eye on the Programmes menu here on the Activation website for the latest physical activity options in Upper Hutt.
