Garden Watering Restrictions
To make sure that water is not wasted needlessly the Upper Hutt City Council has Garden Watering Restrictions concerning the use of water that apply year round. The use of irrigation systems and sprinklers has the potential to waste a lot of water if used too frequently, or turned on and forgotten about. It is for these reasons that the following restrictions apply. These restrictions are designed to give people sensible guidance about the use of water.
Soak don’t spray. Less frequent watering makes plants hardier and encourages the roots to grow deeper to seek out moisture.
From 1 October 2002 the following Garden Water Restrictions will be in force:
- A single garden watering system or sprinkler or soaker hose or an unattended hose may be in use at each premise in the morning between 6am and 8am, and in the evening between 7pm and 9pm.
- Premises with odd numbers can water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
- Premises with even numbers can water on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
- Each garden watering system, sprinkler, soaker hose or unattended hose, must be in the care of a responsible person.
- Only one of the above garden watering systems can be used at a time in your garden.
