Your Council
Committees
The Council is empowered by Clause 32 of Schedule 7 of the Local Government Act 2002, to delegate any of its responsibilities duties or powers to any Committee or Subcommittee of the Council, or to any Member(s) or Officer(s). Delegations made by the council include the power to subdelegate unless the Council specfies to the contrary.
Note:
The Council is unable to delegate any of the following:
- the power to make a rate
- the power to make a bylaw
- the power to borrow money or to purchase or dispose of assets other than in accordance with the LTCCP
- the power to appoint a Chief Executive
- the power to adopt policies required to be adopted and consulted on under the Local Government Act 2002 in association with the LTCCP or developed for the purpose of the Local Governance Statement.
Principal Standing Committees
The current Principal Standing Committees are as follows:

- Hearings
It is incumbent upon all Standing Committees:
- to ensure that Council policy is observed and Council decisions are complied with.
- to make recommendations to Council when necessary as to the interpretation of policy or as to the need to depart from the policy in specific instances.
- to make recommendations to Council on all matters where authority has not been delegated to the Committee or where their decision required is beyond any delegation granted.
- to consider the public interest in, and reaction to, matters under their jurisdiction.
- to investigate, consider and make recommendations about functions assigned to them in accordance with laid down procedure and any delegation by the Council after the policy has been decided by the Council.
