12 October 2010 - Basic vegetable gardening
|
|
|
Local gardening guru Judy
Griffiths led a workshop on how to grow vegetables cheaply and easily in
pots or on a small space of land. Her gems of wisdom included:
- how a packet of mesclun seeds can
provide over four times the amount of mesclun salad than a bag of
mesclun mix at the supermarket, at the same price.
- the no-dig garden, meaning that there are no weeds to pull up
- what produce from the garden she has bottled so she can last the winter with vegetables

29 June 2010 - Neighbourhood trading systems
|
|
This interactive workshop offered an
in-depth understanding of how neighbourhood trading systems work. Linnea
Lindstroem from the Wellington Independent Trading System (WITS) led
the workshop on:
- Getting what you need without dollars
- Helping others out with your skills and your stuff
People in the workshop shared what services they
would like to have and what they could offer. In this system, people
can “bank” points meaning that it doesn’t have to be a direct trade. To
see more information or to be part of WITS (which is a Wellington
regional system) visit http://www.community-exchange.org/
