Shade Loan scheme

The Shade Loan scheme is a joint project between Activation, Upper Hutt City Council and Cancer Society Wellington Division. This enables community groups that are organising events to book a small shade marquee, umbrella’s and subject to stock, potentially borrow some sunscreen. The Shade Loan scheme is designed to assist you as one part of making your event SunSmart. Other actions you can take to make your event SunSmart are:
 

• Advertising your event as SunSmart on your brochures, flyers and programmes, to ensure that people bring their hats, cover up clothes, Sunscreen and sunglasses.
• That those organising the event are SunSmart too!

• To supply shade for the event (We can help with that)

It is important that those who you are inviting to your event know that it is SunSmart, as it helps to remind them of the importance of reducing their risk of skin cancer, and gives them a chance to take action before they arrive on the day. So any sunscreen that we give out for the event is designed to be used as a back up for those who have not brought their own.

Sunscreen is the last line of defence to reduce the risk of sun damage to your skin. No sunscreen will completely shield you from the effects of UVR. That’s why it’s important firstly to wear clothes with sleeves and collars, hats, sunglasses and to utilise shade.
