Upper Hutt City
Living in our city
It’s a lifestyle focus. Upper Hutt is the Wellington region’s outdoor paradise. For residents it means relatively cheap housing and rental accommodation that is likely to have more space than most city housing. The city is nestled in the northern Hutt Valley with a trout-fishing river flowing through its heart, surrounded by bush-clad hills.
For the casual outdoors person there are leisurely walks along a well developed river trail or gentle bush walks. For the more adventurous, kayaking, tramping or mountain-biking will be more appealing.
Upper Hutt prides itself on its many nationally and internationally successful sporting teams and individuals, who have easy access to plenty of sports fields and manny other facilities including the renowned aquatic centre H2O Xtream.
The Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre hosts regular art exhibitions and live art performances, and is a focal point for the city’s art and culture fraternity.
There’s always something happening in Upper Hutt – international jousting at Harcourt Park, horse
racing at Trentham Race Course, the Karapoti Classic mountain bike race, the Main Street Spring
Festival, Carols in the Park at Christmas, and so much more.
For families, Upper Hutt has many excellent preschools, primary schools and secondary schools.
Wellington’s Victoria University and the region’s many other tertiary institutions are all within easy
commuting distance for Upper Hutt students.
