Upper Hutt City Library is excited to announce that they are bringing lending Ebooks and Audiobooks to Upper Hutt with ePukapuka (Overdrive).

Here are a few answers to some questions you may have about Ebooks:

What is an Ebook?
An Ebook is a digital format of a book and is usually in a PDF or ePUB file format.

What can I read an Ebook on?
You can read an Ebook from the Upper Hutt City Library’s collection on an Ebook reader (like a Kobo), smartphone, tablet, and PC/Laptops. Initially you may need to download software to enable you to read the file formats.

Unfortunately Amazon Kindles are not compatible with the vendors we have gone with.
 

What software will I have to download?

There is a full list of applications and compatible devices available on the OverDrive site.

How do I do it?

Initially you will need to register your Adobe Digital Edition (or application) by completing a brief online form, and then registering your device. Once you have done this, Ebooks are as easy as the steps listed below:

• Click on the Ebooks link on the Library website
• Locate the title you want
• You can borrow up to 5 Ebooks/Audiobooks at any one time
• Click the link in the title record and checkout using your library card and pin number.
• You can then chose to download the title to your device (file can be transferred from PC to device using wireless networking or USB). This can be downloaded again, or transferred to another device.
• Titles will expire after issue period (1 week). The file can then be deleted off your device.
• There are NO overdue charges.
• Titles can be requested (no charge) and you will be emailed when the title is available. (You cannot request a title you have on loan).

What is the issue period?

Ebooks/Audiobooks have a 1 week issue period.

Does it cost?

At this stage titles are free to borrow, and there are no overdue charges as books are automatically returned.
